UL Learning Map
Blenders and beepers, hair dryers and handsets—over 17 billion products in 99 countries bear the UL brand. Since 1894, Underwriters Laboratories, a not-for-profit organization, has been testing products for public safety.
A recent change in corporate strategy prompted the creation of a learning map. These images synthesize a complex process into an imaginative visual that, when combined with proper dialogue, shortens learning time and improves retention.
An orchestral theme was chosen for the learning map being that each section—woodwind, brass, strings and percussion—must work in unison to achieve a common goal. Theater patrons waiting to get their tickets to the performance represent UL customers. Through the windows of the venue, challenges and opportunities dot the horizon.
