Poison call centers receive 10,830 calls each and every day. 92.7 % of all poison exposures occur in the home and involve everyday household items such as medicines, cleaning supplies, cosmetics and personal care items. 50.7% of poison exposures occur in children under the age of six. Most of these incidents could have been prevented through education.

In order to reach the very young with poison safety, a coloring and activity book was devised to be distributed free-of-charge at the Kroger pharmacy counter. Through mazes, puzzles, crosswords and other innovative games and activities, the book informed the children about the dangers of household products, food and beverages, chemicals, environmental toxins, drugs and medicine, and animal and insect bites and stings.
